Thank You #SFCClassOf2024-25

As the season comes to an end, let’s reminisce on the many ups & downs that the Red Giants have gone throughout this season. The Malaysian League was played out using the yearly calendar in previous seasons, before being transitioned to follow the FIFA calendar in the latest season, making it a new experience for all teams. Here are some of the achievements that the team has accomplished:-

Selangor FC concluded their 2024/25 Malaysia Super League campaign on April 19, with their final league match against PDRM FC. The team delivered consistent performances throughout the season, finishing second in the league standings with 52 points from 24 matches – comprising 16 wins, four draws, and four losses. This secured Selangor FC qualification to the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26 for the second consecutive year. Their spot was clinched following a crucial victory in their third-last match of the season against Kelantan Darul Naim FC.

In the FA Cup, Selangor FC showcased their strength by reaching the final. The team registered dominant victories, beating Negeri Sembilan 4-0 in the Round of 16, overcoming Kuching City FC 5-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, and defeating Terengganu FC 6-4 on aggregate in the semi-finals before finishing as runners-up in the final.

In the Malaysia Cup, the Red Giants were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Sri Pahang FC with a 2-3 aggregate loss. However, the team found redemption by lifting the MFL Challenge Cup at MBPJ Stadium, thrashing defending champions PDRM FC with an emphatic 7-0 aggregate win – making Selangor FC the only team to win every major competitive trophy contested in Malaysian football.

On the international front, Selangor FC marked their return to Asian competition for the first time since 2016, competing in Group H of the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26. Finishing in third with 11 points – just one point shy of second-placed Muangthong United. The team recorded three wins, one draw, and two losses, underlining their growing potential at the continental level.

Selangor FC played a total of 44 competitive matches in all competitions, winning 28, drawing 6, and losing 10. The team recorded 18 clean sheets – 11 in the Super League, four in the MFL Challenge Cup, two in the AFC Champions League Two, and one in the FA Cup.

Goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz led the clean sheet tally with 11, followed by Samuel Somerville (five) and young goalkeeper, Azim Al Amin (four). The team scored a total of 87 goals with an average of two goals per match while conceding 36. Their longest unbeaten streak spanned 17 matches, and their longest winless run lasted just one game.

Winger Alvin Fortes topped the scoring chart with 20 goals and was the only player to score in all five competitions. Ronnie Fernandez followed with 16 goals, and Yohandry Orozco contributed 11 goals. Other notable scorers included Ali Olwan and Quentin Cheng (five each), Safuwan Baharudin, Mukhairi Ajmal, and Harith Haiqal (four each), and Faisal Halim, who scored a memorable hat-trick.

In terms of assists, Yohandry Orozco led the chart with 10 assists. Quentin Cheng was close behind with nine, while Ronnie Fernandez, Alvin Fortes, and Nooa Laine each had seven. Mukhairi Ajmal recorded five assists, and several others, including Safuwan Baharudin, Alexander Agyarkwa, and Noor Al-Rawabdeh, contributed significantly.

A total of 19 players clocked over 1,000 minutes of game time, with Alvin Fortes leading the way with 3,136 minutes. Several young players also made their debuts: Nooa Laine and Reziq Banihani (both 22) debuted against Kedah Darul Aman FC in the league opener, while Azim Al Amin (23) made his first appearance in the FA Cup Final. Jordanian import Mohammad Abualnadi (23) debuted in the AFC competition against Dynamic Herb Cebu FC, and Harry Danish (20) played his first game in the MFL Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

Four players – Mukhairi Ajmal, Haiqal Lau, Sharul Nazeem, and Quentin Cheng – reached the 100-appearance milestone with the senior team, a testament to their development since their promotion from Selangor’s feeder team in 2020. This season also marked the end of an era as veteran goalkeeper Khairulazhan Khalid bid farewell after ten loyal years with the club, having experienced the club’s transition from a state association to a professional football club.

Faisal Halim and Nooa Laine were both selected in the 'Fans Best XI' at the 2024/25 National Football Awards. Kalamullah Al-Hafiz was shortlisted among the top three goalkeepers in his debut season with the Red Giants, while Harith Haiqal and Harry Danish were shortlisted as top three in the Best Defender and Best PMFL Player categories, respectively.

In AFC competition, four players earned Man of the Match honours: Ronnie Fernandez (vs. Muangthong United), Yohandry Orozco (both matches vs. Dynamic Herb Cebu), and Ali Olwan (vs. Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC). The highlight of the campaign was undoubtedly Selangor’s 2-1 win over Korean giants Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors at MBPJ Stadium.

With consistent improvement across all competitions and a growing list of individual and team accolades, the 2024/25 season was a milestone year for Selangor FC. From continental breakthroughs to domestic resilience, the Red Giants have set a strong foundation for greater success in the future.

Thank you for a memorable 2024/2025 season, onwards and upwards Selangor FC!

Demi Kebanggaan!
