Sep 14, 2023 - FASThe nation's under-23 team successfully qualified for the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup in Qatar following the qualification round in Thailand which concluded on the 12th of September, after earning the last spot out of four of the best runner-up place in the group.
Mukhairi Ajmal, Syahir Bashah, Ruventhiran, Harith Haiqal, Zikri Khalili, and Izwan Yuslan are six Selangor FC players that participated in the U23 Asian Cup qualification round for the National U23 team.
Malaysia was able to collect six points during the entire round after winning against Bangladesh (2-0) and the Philippines (4-0). Mukhairi Ajmal, Harith Haiqal, and Izwan Yuslan each scored one goal for the team in these two matches.
In the last match of the Group H's qualifying round, Malaysia lost to Thailand 1-0, placing them second in the group. Malaysia, however, was able to advance as the last second-best team due to the lower number of yellow cards compared to Iran.
The under-23 national squad arrived safely in Malaysia yesterday. The six players will report to the Red Giants camp today to prepare for the upcoming 2023 Malaysia Cup Quarter Final match against Terengganu FC this Saturday.
