Swiss midfielder Oliver Buff today was officially announced as the Red Giants' latest import player as the Klang Valley giant prepares for the upcoming season.

Hailing from Baden, Switzerland, this player has represented his national youth squad with the U-15 team up to U-21 squad and played in several international tournaments including the 2012 Olympic Games in London. He also one of the squads that won the U-17 World Cup winner in 2009.

Nicknamed “Oli”, he also wore the FC Zürich youth team jersey in Switzerland from 2007 and made his main squad debut for the country's giant club in mid-2010.

He was one of the key figures in the success of FC Zürich by helping the club lifting the Swiss Cup for two consecutive seasons in the 2013-2014 and 2015-2016 seasons. According to transfermarkt.com data, the Swiss has made 217 appearances and scored 28 goals and 31 assists for the club.

This utility player continues to spread his wings overseas by joining the Cyprus first division team, Anorthosis Famagusta before returning to Switzerland to join the 2nd division club, Grasshopper Club Zurich for a year.

Selangor FC is the first Asian club for Oliver and he feels this is the best opportunity to develop his football career.

"I got a phone call from an agent about a project in Malaysia with Selangor FC and I also had a chance to talk with Selangor FC head coach, Karsten Neitzel, and the Technical Director, Michael Feichtenbeiner about their plans. From the first minute I was really confident that I wanted to be part of the Red Yellow family," said Oliver on the reason why he chose Selangor FC.

"Selangor FC's plan to return to glory days has convinced me that this will be the best place for me to develop my football career in this beautiful country," said Oliver.

From a young age, Oliver Buff has captivated the hearts of Selangor FC gaffer, Coach Karsten Neitzel as he always follows his development from time to time.

"I have never worked with Oliver. Back then, when he was a young player at FC Zürich, Oliver attracted my interest to bring him into my old team in Germany. Although unsuccessful, from that day I followed his progress until now," Karsten shared his thoughts on his latest signing.

"Oliver is a player who has a lot of calm on the ball, has a good overview, and is of good quality in both offensive and defensive). He can be the best example for our young players. I hope that he can show all of these qualities to us soon,” added Coach Karsten.

Before concluding the interview, Oliver had time to express his desire to bring Selangor FC back to greatness. While admitting that it is not an easy task, he is confident that all players, coaches, and management of Red Giants FC are working towards the same goal.

Selangor FC welcomes Oliver Buff and hopes he can strengthen the midfield and attacking force of the Red Giants for the Malaysia League this season.

Oliver Buff is the fifth new player introduced to line up the main team after Selangor FC introduced Shahrel Fikri, Tim Heubach, R. Dinesh, and Nik Sharif previously. Best of luck, Oli!
