Selangor were forced to call off their friendly against Sime Darby at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Sports Complex yesterday due to bad weather.
The match was supposed to be the final test for the Red Giants before they register their players for next season’s Super League.
New Selangor coach Irfan Bakti, however, was still upbeat despite the cancellation of his side’s first friendly match.
“It’s not wise to play in a thunderstorm. On top of that, the pitch was waterlogged after the heavy downpour,” said Irfan who was named the best coach in the 100PLUS-Astro-FAM national football awards last month.
“We wanted to test our new signings but it was not meant to be. We will play Sime Darby tomorrow (today),” added Irfan.
The Red Giants have already secured the signature of 27-year-old Lebanese defender Ramez Dayoub.
They have also signed Harimau Muda midfielder K. Gurusamy.
“We have a strong midfield with several good players. Now we are looking to sign a foreign striker and we have identified the player,” said Irfan, who guided Terengganu to the FA Cup title last season.
